Ms Mary Dutki

Ms Mary Dutki is a graduate and member of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University College of Health Sciences. She is a budding public health researcher, and a proactive and dynamic team leader who brings a pragmatic and conscientious approach to tackling assigned projects.
Mary joined the Fellowship Program in April 2008 and was attached to PREFA.

While hosted at PREFA as a Fellow, Mary used her laboratory skills to contribute to the implementation of quality assurance (QA) programs in HIV testing sites. She completed a baseline assessment of the QA program in 50 public health facilities, and implemented an on-site evaluation of HIV testing in PMTCT sites in 287 public facilities.

Mary utilised her excellent research and writing skills to advise individuals with ongoing research studies, and to contribute regularly to scientific and media fora. For her programmatic activity, Mary conducted a study to define male involvement in PMTCT in Kayunga district, Uganda.

Mary was trained in Monitoring and Evaluation of HIV/Programs at the University of Pretoria, and used her M&E knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation systems at PREFA. She was the lead evaluator for the evaluation of the community component of the PMTCT program at PREFA.

Prior to joining PREFA, Mary worked with the Laboratory for HIV Reference and Quality Assurance at the Uganda Virus Research Institute as a Laboratory Supervisor. During her work with UVRI, Mary led a team of biomedical personnel to successfully implement biomarker testing for the 2004/5 Uganda Household Sero-Behavioural Survey. In the same laboratory she spearheaded the implementation of a quality improvement project.
Mary currently works with the META Project at Makerere University School of Public Health as an M&E Technical Advisor.
